The School: Academics at Kurn Hattin

students in class

Kurn Hattin offers a Vermont State Approved Independent Elementary and Junior High academic program. The school serves students in grades 1-8 using ability grouping in the classroom. Students are placed in academic classes based on their academic ability and needs. Our objective is to recognize learning style, not as a way to label children, but to understand how each child learns best.

State certified teachers utilize a problem solving hands-on methodology when instructing. The theme of learning through doing is facilitated through our teaching farm program, music department, technology program, and core subjects, English, Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Children also attend classes in Physical Education, Health, Art, Library and Social Skills Training. Chapter I services are available to students in Math and Reading if necessary.
