Children Feel Transformed at Kurn Hattin
September 11, 2012 | Westminster, VT– Whether it’s been two months or two years, the children’s sentiments about living at Kurn Hattin Homes are profoundly the same. “I’ve never felt this supported.” It’s not just one person they speak about. It’s the entire campus.
Imagine going to a new school and on day one, your first step into the building a student comes running up and says, “Hey, welcome. Let me show you around.” Eighth grader, Thomas Taylor and 6th grader Destiny Howell are just two of the many children who have been transformed by their participation in this child-centered home and school in Westminster, Vermont.
Destiny, who just arrived just two months ago, can’t get over the physical education opportunities she had. “I couldn’t run a mile before coming here. I already feel so much more healthy and independent too.” Thomas, who’s been at the Homes for two years, has lost weight; gained friends, and sung solo in concerts (He’s always had an amazing voice.) “Before coming here I was bounced around to many schools; I was lonely; I didn’t have any friends. Here at Kurn Hattin, I’ve gotten supported in everything I did or needed to do.”
