Dr. Patricia Papernow

Dr. Patricia PapernowPatricia Papernow, Ed.D., is an internationally recognized expert on stepfamilies. She is a psychologist in private practice in Hudson, Massachusetts, and Clinical Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Papernow sits on the Experts Council of the National Stepfamily Resource Center and is the author of one of the classic clinical books in the field, Becoming a Stepfamily: Patterns of Development in Remarried Families, as well as numerous articles and book chapters on stepfamily relationships. Her second book will be published in 2012.

In addition to her lively presence and her engaging teaching skills, Dr. Papernow brings over thirty years of clinical practice and her solid grounding in the research to her work as a supervisor, trainer, and therapist. Patricia Papernow, Ed.D., is an internationally recognized expert on stepfamilies. She is a psychologist in private practice in Hudson, Massachusetts, and Clinical Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School.

Conference Participants will learn to:

  • understand the major challenges stepfamily structure creates for adults and children and their relationships with each other.
  • describe specific strategies that help meet the challenges of stepfamily “architecture”.
  • recognize what adults can do to support children’s adjustment in a stepfamily.
  • differentiate between the parenting and stepparenting role.

    This continuing education activity was approved by the Vermont State Nurses Association’s Committee on Education, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
