Kurn Hattin Wrapping up Red Ribbon Week
October 29, 2012 | Westminster, VT. – The Kurn Hattin children have just wrapped up Red Ribbon Week, a week focusing on making healthy choices in life. Activities and experiences using all methods of learning included nutrition, peer pressure, drug and alcohol abuse, smoking, and bullying & harassment. Activities were both meaningful and entertaining. To conclude the week, the students wrote essays and poetry to sum up their experiences.
Kaylee Cherbonneau, a 7th grader, wrote this poem as a rap.
Choose to Refuse
Don’t huff, Don’t puff, don’t start that stuff.
I’m bully-free, drug free, and alcohol free,
I’m just following my destiny.
Don’t follow the bad things, turn your back,
because all these things are so whack.
Don’t ever drop out of school,
Because I’m telling you, that’s not cool.
If you’re getting bullied tell an adult,
and all you know, it’s not your fault.
You should give out hope,
instead of stinky old dope.
If you are mad, do not shout,
Just think of a way to figure it out.
Bullying in Kurn Hattin isn’t cool,
don’t do it or it you’ll be a fool.
Drugs could mess up system,
I wouldn’t do it because I have the wisdom.
Alcohol could mess up your life,
You could get drunk and get cut by a knife.
From using drugs, your brain could get a bruise.
Drug use is life abuse.
Why would you smoke?
It could cause a stroke.
ABCD drugs stay away from me.
