The Kurn Hattin Homes’ middle school students had the opportunity to visit Hypertherm, a manufacturer of industrial cutting tools located in Lebanon, NH. It is very successful company earning almost a billion dollars in revenue a year.
Students learned about the fourth state of matter, plasma, and how it is used by Hypertherm tools to cut metal. Best of all, students got the chance to use a plasma tool themselves to cut their design out of metal. They were also were given a tour to see how they build the tools they sell using computer controlled lathes and robotic arms. Field trips such as this one are great motivators for students’ learning and their future careers. Since 1894, Kurn Hattin Homes for Children has helped thousands of children and their families by offering a safe home and quality education in a nurturing environment.
